My DIRECTV HD TiVo has died. Less than a year and a half old, some sort of hard drive failure has occurred. Until it is replaced; there are only two TV shows I'll be able to keep up with, thanks to ABC and the iTunes Music Store.
My strange working hours of 4am to noon preclude watching prime time in prime time. TiVo, like my previous Dish Network DVR, has enabled me to be hooked on good programming from all the networks. On CBS there are the various flavors of CSI, along with NCIS. NBC has The West Wing and Las Vegas. But with no TiVo, I'll only be able to keep up with ABC's Desperate Housewives and Lost, both of which can be purchased from iTunes. I wish other networks would join up. I wish ABC would do more of its shows on iTunes, as I'll miss Commander in Chief, Grey's Anatomy and Boston Legal.
As for the TiVo, it's out of warranty, so DIRECTV wants $200 to replace it. It will be obsolete next summer, as new DVR devices that will work with the service's newest HD satellites come out. Those new satellites are incompatible with my TiVo. They're already broadcasting local stations, like the one I work at.
I'm glad I bought an extended service plan from Best Buy. They were very helpful on the phone, and are shipping me a box to return the TiVo. They will either repair or replace within 2 days after they receive it.

love you get well
