Ok, I see its been 14 months since my last post. I really will try to do better. But here I am, on the trip of a lifetime, and I'm in the wrong city.
I signed up for the Magical History Tour, a fantastic excursion of 13 "Beatle-full" days of touring the most important sites in Beatle lore. That's a big deal for me. First stop, Hamburg. Or so I thought. Somewhere in Terminal 1 at Heathrow, I managed to lose my passport. Don't ask me how. Its a mystery to me. The people at Heathrow did their best to be helpful. And the question everyone asked is valid: Have you thoroughly checked your pockets? Your bag? Yes, is the answer. And while everyone is really trying to help, having 2 dozen people ask you if you've checked your pockets becomes, well, trying.
So it seems I'll be trapped in London while the rest of the group is in Hamburg. Not so bad, except there's not much to do on a rainy cold Sunday. Really.
When Cheryl dropped me off at O'Hare, I proudly told her I was bringing no jacket, because I planned to buy one in Hamburg, probably at the Star club or something. But now here I am in London, cold, with nothing but closed stores around.
Meanwhile, I still need to deal with the passport. I had hoped to go to the US Embassy tomorrow, but appointments are required. The first one I could get is on Tuesday, which is when the Hamburg entourage will arrive in London. Hopefully, the Embassy will be able to supply me with a temporary passport, and I'll be able to go on to France. I added some days in England and a trip to France to my itinerary.
So for Monday, it looks like: buy a jacket, and spend some time toodling around London. That's not so bad!
